Young Star of the Year

Variety, the Children’s Charity look out for the shining stars of Jersey. These annual awards celebrate the courage, creativity, and commitment of children and young people in Jersey. The six categories for which Variety look to find a ‘Star’ are...
Aimed at youngsters aged between six and sixteen, the event is run in conjunction with the Pride of Jersey Awards, organised by the Jersey Evening Post.
The public are invited to nominate the young people that they think should be recognised and rewarded. Many young islanders face adversity in their lives; this could be dealing with a debilitating illness, or helping to care for a family member. Others gladly give up their time to help others in the community and Variety is also looking for those who have excelled in an academic or creative forum.
Nomination forms are available below or in hard copy format from all Co-operative food stores, through Island schools, youth clubs and parish halls and through the JEP. Prizes on offer for the winners include a fabulous top prize of an incredible £5,000 worth of travel vouchers from The Channel Islands Cooperative Society Limited, along with £500 worth of vouchers for each of the six category winners.
All the nominated youngsters will be featured in the Jersey Evening Post and the general public will have the opportunity to vote for those that they feel are the most deserving. From this, a shortlist is selected, and the final eighteen nominees are judged by an independent panel. All the shortlisted youngsters and their families are invited to a gala awards ceremony which usually takes place in October over a themed lunch. The highlight of the event is undoubtedly the awards presentation, but all attendees enjoy a three course lunch and a memorable afternoon’s entertainment. Variety are privileged to have His Excellency Air Chief Marshal Stephen and Mrs Dalton to present the top award.
